If and statement in dynamic array
i have a method that fetches data from a database and return an array. This array will then have to be evaluated if the user adds a new input. How do i return the result in the variable qestiontaken if the input is correct?
I tried something like this, but didn't work:
ArrayList qestiontaken = null;
if(a == b)
qestiontaken = new ArrayList();
qestiontaken.add(qestiontaken.indexOf(a) +1);
qestiontaken.add(qestiontaken.indexOf(b) + 1);
return qestiontaken;

Your code will not work because you can't modify the list that is being returned. If you want to add items, you need to call add instead of indexOf.
If you want to modify the list, use a list and modify that instead. Then you can return it.
This will return a List.
List qestiontaken = new ArrayList();
if(a == b)
